Sue & Stu

Meet Sue and Stu, media designers and marketing managers with a shared passion for interior design, DIY, and upcycling. They met at an advertising agency and recently moved into an '80s home near Cologne, Germany, which they’ve been renovating and documenting on Instagram and TikTok (@sue.and.stu). Their projects, including a handmade garden lounge and a DIY built-in wardrobe, are designed to inspire others to create beautiful spaces.

How would you describe your interior design style?

We love stucco and the elegant charm of “Altbau”: High ceilings, herringbone floors, double doors and we try to incorporate this into our 80s building. We would describe our style as a mix of timeless classics, lots of DIYs and heirlooms, mixed with a few trends.

What is your philosophy when curating art for your home ?

We believe that art can have a strong influence on the effect of a room. We love to choose works of art that match the room, for example motifs with food or drink in the kitchen. In my (Sue's) home office I have lots of prints and booklets by Arty Guava that show strong, independent women.

How do you use colour and do you have a favourite colour?

Our furnishing style mainly includes the colours beige, green, white and brown. That's why we love to create a colourful eye-catcher on light walls!

What is your favourite Arty Guava piece and why?

There are a few! “The Chrysanthemum”, “Yin Yang” and “Fruits on Table”, just to name three of our favourites. We like that women are portrayed anonymously, sometimes you only see parts of them which leaves plenty of room for interpretation. It is brilliant how Arty Guava paints clothes transparently, so that the hand practically shines through the sleeves - we’ve never seen something like this before and love it very much! And there are some more of her art we’d like to collect: “Body of Work (Green)” and “Sun and Moon Line” are on our wish list.
